This May, the Sigma Circle and the University of Maryland will bid farewell to a campus luminary. After seven years as Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and ten years as Faculty Secretary of the Sigma Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, Jim Osteen will retire from a marvelous career of active student service. While his engaging disposition and captivating enthusiasm will be missed, his legacy as a leader among leaders will be cherished.
Jim joined the University in 1979 as Director of Campus Activities. His commitment to service and student advocacy manifested in a variety of administrative roles including Director of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union and Campus Programs. Jim assumed the role of Faculty Secretary of Omicron Delta Kappa during the fall of 2001. Prior to that, he was actively involved with the Society as a Voting Faculty Member. In 2004, Jim moved to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs where he was named Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.
